In the fall of 2011, we visited Barcelona and Menorca, it was a wonderful trip. Barcelona was were we saw Gaudi‘s Magnum opus along with a number of his most prominent buildings and other work. In Menorca, we stayed near a beach that left nothing to be desired. Good Paella, beautiful scenery and amazing beaches are the highlight of this Mediterranean island.
Combining Menorca and Barcelona in one trip made sense and we were able to see a great deal of architecture and scenery in that trip. We flew on an MD-83 courtesy of the now-defunct Spanair, a rare flight for us. We flew on it between BCN and MAH and I expect that was the last time on an MD-80 for me.
I really had a good time in an area of the world that actively encourages tourism. They invest in infrastructure and connectivity. As a result the tourists notice.
Read more about that trip here. We recommend the sun in Menorca especially in late September when the rest of the Europe is cooling down. Similarly, we recommend Barcelona because of the the architecture and the scenes. The food and culture are a nice mix of Catalan, Mediterranean and Spanish. Camp Nou and the shopping aren’t bad either.
