Own a pointless collection

Richard Horne’s 101 Things To Do Before You Die, proposes to own a pointless collection as task number 17, and I liked it and decided to include it on my list.

Key Card Collection

Some of my Key Cards

Travelling is such a standardized industry, almost every hotel you go to gives you an access card to your room in lieu of an actual key. This Key Card was introduced to be of the same dimension as the standard business or credit card or the standard driving or pilot license. Whether the card functions by RFID, by magnetic strips or by mechanical hole punctures is irrelevant, the key itself was created as an increased security feature or most probably to reduce the headache caused by lost keys

Most travelers enjoy Souvenirs, and when collecting souvenirs, few non-commercial items serve as a reminder of the trip. Some choose the boarding passes, which aren’t available to me when I travel as part of the operating crew, others take pictures, which is a great idea except when you travel for a living, you sometimes just want to cosy up to a book and never leave the hotel. Maybe you just want to go to your favorite hangout and do your routine things, then you are extremely unlikely to take a picture.

The thing that has never failed me so far is the Key Card, every time you check-in a hotel you are issued at least one Key Card and almost every time you ask the reception if you can keep it, they are either agreeable or more often excited to be thought of for your souvenir collection.  I decided to start a collection of Hotel Key Cards.
